skip navigationOne of the most exciting aspects of the USA Hockey SafeSport Program is the online training/education that is available to help our members become aware of the information necessary to help prevent abuse from occurring in our sport. All CPYHA Coaches, Managers, Board Member and Volunteers who work on rules, policies or are in contact with any youth player are required to complete the training at no cost.
The SafeSport Training and Refresher Training are each valid for one (1) season beginning on 4/1/19. Please Note: if you took the training during the 2018-19 season, it is still valid for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.
All relevant individuals who need to be SafeSport certified or are seeking recertification will need to complete the new SafeSport training, which features updated content.
Once you have completed the Core SafeSport Course, there will be a Refresher Course available for individuals who have previously completed the core SafeSport course and need to recertify. Users completing the SafeSport refresher course will be certified for an additional season.
PLEASE NOTE that you will need your own USA Hockey Confirmation Number or Referee Number and your own email address to access the training. You can locate your number OR obtain a number here www.usahockeyregistration.com. If you will not be participating as a player, coach or referee, you can register at no cost under the ice manager/volunteer category to obtain your USA Hockey Confirmation Number.
Champlin Park Youth Hockey association is committed to the safety of all players. We are committed to the seriousness of concussions and the protection of our players. Our goal is to provide education regarding signs and symptoms of a concussion and follow the action plan for a suspected concussion. The association will follow the MN law that mandates a youth exhibiting any signs or symptoms of a concussion be removed from play immediately. The athlete must be evaluated by and given written permission from a health care professional in order to return to play.
CPYHA is working with Angie Szumowski, the trainer from Champlin Park High School, to complete baseline testing for our players. Baseline testing is not required, but highly recommend. After completing testing, the results will be on file for doctors to review in case of a possible concussion. Here is a brief explanation: baseline tests and post-injury tests are computerized assessments that measure Reaction Time, Memory Capacity, Speed of Mental Processing, and Executive Functioning of the brain. They also record baseline concussion symptoms and provide extensive information about the athlete's history with concussions.
